Boiler installation, servicing and repairs in Northampton

Whether your boiler has stopped working, is due its annual service or is nearing the end of its working life, BBK Heating can help. Gas Safe registered, fully insured and covering Northamptonshire, Bedford and Milton Keynes.

Boiler installation

New and replacement boilers

A new boiler is a significant investment. We survey the property, assess how the household uses heating and hot water, review the existing pipework and radiators, and set out the suitable options clearly — with no pressure and no obligation.

Every installation is carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer and backed by BBK Heating's workmanship guarantee. Quotes and estimates are free, with no obligation.

Combi boilers

The most popular choice in Northampton homes. A combi heats water on demand, so there is no hot water cylinder or loft tank taking up space. Ideal for flats and homes with one bathroom, and a great option if you want to free up an airing cupboard.

System boilers

A system boiler works with a hot water cylinder and suits larger homes with two or more bathrooms, where several taps or showers may be used at once. Most of the parts are built into the boiler, so installation is neat and reliable.

Heat-only (regular) boilers

Also called conventional boilers, these work with a cylinder and a tank in the loft. Often the sensible choice for older properties with traditional pipework, or where water pressure is low.

Replacement boilers

Swapping an ageing boiler for a modern condensing model can make a real difference to how warm your home feels and how much you spend on gas. We will advise clearly on whether a repair or a replacement represents better value.

Advice on choosing the right boiler

The right boiler depends on the size of your home, how many bathrooms you have, your water pressure and how the household uses hot water. We explain the practical differences, expected running costs and warranty terms, and recommend the boiler best suited to the property rather than the most expensive model available.

Boiler servicing

Book your annual boiler service

An annual service is the single best way to keep your boiler safe, efficient and reliable. Most breakdowns give warning signs long before they leave you without heating, and a service is where those signs get spotted.

Manufacturers typically require an annual service by a Gas Safe registered engineer for a boiler guarantee to remain valid, so it is worth checking the terms that apply to your own boiler.

The best time to book is late summer or early autumn, before the heating goes back on and before the busy winter period.

What a service typically includes

  • Visual inspection of the boiler, flue and surrounding area
  • Checking gas pressure and burner operation
  • Testing safety devices and controls
  • Cleaning components where needed
  • Checking for leaks and correct ventilation
  • Checking system pressure and the expansion vessel
  • A clear explanation of anything that needs attention

Boiler repairs

Boiler breakdowns and faults

Losing heating or hot water is disruptive, particularly in winter. Call BBK Heating and describe the symptoms, and we will arrange a visit to diagnose the fault properly and advise on the repair required.

Boiler not working at all

No response from the controls, the boiler locking out, or a display showing nothing. Often a fault with the PCB, a sensor, gas supply or the electrical supply.

No heating

Hot water works but the radiators stay cold — commonly a diverter valve, pump, thermostat or motorised valve issue.

No hot water

Heating fine but no hot water at the taps. Usually the diverter valve, plate heat exchanger or a faulty flow sensor.

Boiler losing pressure

The pressure gauge keeps dropping and the boiler needs constant topping up. Nearly always a leak, a failed expansion vessel or a passing pressure relief valve.

Unusual noises

Banging, kettling, gurgling or whistling. Often sludge or limescale in the heat exchanger, trapped air, or a failing pump.

Error or fault codes

Modern boilers display a code when something is wrong. Quote the code when you call and we can advise on the likely cause and what a repair typically involves.

Heating cutting out

The boiler fires up then shuts down again shortly afterwards. Frequently caused by poor circulation, a blocked condensate pipe or a faulty sensor.
